DOMAIN NAMES
How to Choose a Domain Name
A lot of internet gurus suggest the first domain name you should register is your own. Not a bad idea really - domain names are very affordable and you don't know how big your MLM and internet business will become in the future.
You may want to link your MLM website, blogs and niche marketing sites all under your own name. So that should be your first choice - not a hard one really.
On the other hand, whether you need a domain name for your MLM business, traditional business, hobby, blog or whatever, it can be a lot of fun letting your creative side loose thinking up a name. You have got a creative side, haven't you? Well, even if you think you haven't, here is a brief overview on choosing a domain name - you might even surprise yourself with what you come up with!
Start brainstorming names - BUT take your time - don't rush - what sounds like the greatest name in the world today can probably be improved on by sleeping on it. Some of my best ideas usually wake me at 3.00 a.m. in the morning and I'm scrambling around for a pen and paper so I don't forget them!
Domain names should reflect your MLM products, website, business, hobby, niche market etc.
Put together a list of words relating to your website content and your preferred domain name. Try out different combinations of words from your list. If you want a specific word in your domain name, think of all the forms of it - noun, adjective, verb, adverb - now that should give you a flashback to High School English classes - or try the good old Thesaurus for more ideas.
The Long and the Short of It
Your domain name can be 67 characters long, which includes 26 letters of the English alphabet, numbers 0-9 and hyphens (-).
It needs to be easily remembered -
Imthebestcookintheworldnexttoauntyethel.com
contains 39 characters and I think you would agree is just a tiny bit too long. Try putting that website name on your business cards and stationery, let alone a car or van!
On the other hand - Joesrecipes.com is -
Short
Easy to remember;
Easy to type;
Not easily confused;
Looks better (on business cards, stationery, cars etc.);
Will have less spelling errors; and
Lets people know what the website is about.
When you have a few available name choices, run them past your friends, family or even your clients and see what they have to say.
What you think is dynamic or funny might leave someone else scratching their head wondering what it means!
Finally, write it down and look at it - very carefully! Most of us have seen the chain e-mail with these rather odd domain names:
Therapistfinder.com - (Therapist Finder)
Penisland.com - (Pen Island)
Expertsexchange.com - (Experts Exchange)
Don't get caught out!
Get your thinking cap on, get creative and have fun with those domain names!
