How You Can Use MLM Products To Create The Ultimate Niche Markets
What are Niche Markets?
An easy definition is - a market that targets a product or service to a specific group of people that is not readily served by a mainstream product or service. Clear as mud, isn't it!
From huge multi-national businesses to the local coffee shop they are all targeting niche markets. For example, Dell computers target people looking for the solution of what computer to buy. Gloria Jeans coffee shops target coffee lovers, like me! I love their Decaf Latte – have to have my coffee hit at least once a day!
Everywhere you look on the internet you come across the words “niche markets”. There are hundreds of ebooks and courses on finding niche markets and promoting products or services but I have found a lot of them to be quite confusing and not relevant to what I was really looking for.
So, I have decided to put together a couple of examples of niche markets for MLM products that hopefully will give you some new ideas and illustrate how you can generate multiple streams of income.
Building niche markets with your MLM products or services can lay the foundation for not only a very successful internet marketing business for yourself but also for the downline you are building within your MLM business.
Taking two popular types of MLM or network marketing businesses, such as the Travel and Health and Wellness sector, you could build niche markets on specific destinations or products.
It’s no good just setting up a website that says -
“Hey, I’m in the Health and Wellness business and I’ve got hundreds of great products that will change your life”,
or
“I have a travel business, if you want to go on a great holiday you can book it here”.
You need to target your market, offer a solution to their problem and then you will attract people who really want to read what you have to say and ultimately buy the product or service you are promoting.
Your objective with niche marketing is to become an authority on your particular subject.
But, remember, whatever you decide to promote in your niche market, make sure you write good generic content. Do not push your product or MLM opportunity at your audience – it’s an instant turn off. You want your website to be jam-packed with such good information that your visitors would be crazy to click out.
I’ll take both our Travel and Health and Wellness examples and show you how a well built website, using attraction marketing and content rich articles can attract a targeted audience.
Firstly, the Travel industry. The world is a very large place with fabulous and exciting places to visit. But you need to narrow it down – so use your favourite holiday destination. You like going there so it stands to reason that other people will too – especially after you have shown them on your website how well you know this particular place.
My example will be Sydney, Australia. Yes, I know I’m biased, I’m an Aussie but it really is an exciting and beautiful city to visit but more importantly, I know a lot about it.
If you wanted to use a destination you haven’t personally visited yet, that’s easy, research it! Buy books or DVD’s, borrow them from your local library, Google it – find out all you can and start putting that content together.
Back to Sydney – my niche market broad categories for my website would be –
- Where is it?
- Climate
- Language
- Currency
- History of Sydney
- Why I love this destination so much – make it personal so people can connect with you
- How to get around Sydney – transport options such as, hire cars, buses, trains, taxis, ferries, water taxis
- Accommodation
- Attractions
- Your favourite – sightseeing places, accommodation, restaurants, day trips, entertainment, beaches etc. – again make it a personal story
After setting out your broad categories, dig down into each one and you will find niche markets within your niche markets that you could write great information on. Don’t forget some top-notch photos/images – as they say, a pictures worth a thousand words!
Here we go – Must See and Do when you visit Sydney –
Sydney Opera House – expand on this by writing about the background of the Sydney Opera House, its location on Bennalong Point overlooking the beautiful harbour, tours of the Opera House, what’s on, restaurants and cafes.
Sydney Harbour Bridge – the history of the Bridge, how it is featured in Sydney’s famous New Years Eve fireworks display, the Bridge Climb – yes, you can even climb to the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge – what a view! It’s on my to-do list!
Harbour Ferry Trips – history of the ferries, the first one’s were built and sailed out from the United Kingdom, the ferry trip across the harbour to beautiful Manly “seven miles from Sydney and a thousand miles from care”. Also, sightseeing cruises around the harbour during the day and night. For the more adventurous – Jet Boat rides – see the harbour in the fast lane!
Royal Botantical Gardens – a short walk along the foreshore of the harbour and you can stroll among the unique Australian flora, the perfect place for a picnic or coffee - Decaf Latte hit coming up!
Taronga Park Zoo – a ten minute ferry trip across the harbour and you can see why the giraffes have the best views in Sydney. Guaranteed to see a koala and kangaroo!
Darling Harbour – a short walk from the Sydney CBD and you have a shopping and restaurant mecca where you can visit –
- Sydney Aquarium – one of the largest aquariums in the world - walk under the sharks and stingrays.
- Sydney Wildlife - Showcasing more that 6,000 of Australia’s furry, scaly, hairy and spiky creatures.
- Chinese Garden of Friendship – a beautiful, serene place to have a well earned time-out.
- Australian National Maritime Museum – Experience life aboard the magnificent replica of James Cook’s HMB Endeavour, explore a real submarine and inspect the last of the big-gun navy destroyers HMAS Vampire.
The Rocks - The Rocks is the site of Australia’s first European settlement in 1788. A unique area of Sydney with history, shops, markets and wonderful restaurants.
Centrepoint Tower – The highest point on the Sydney skyline at 320m high with 360 degree viewing.
Historical Houses and Buildings – Victoria Barracks, The Mint, Vaucluse House, the Queen Elizabeth Building and so on.
Art Galleries and Museums – Powerhouse Museum, NSW Art Gallery, Contemporary Art Gallery plus many, many more.
Beaches - You can’t visit Sydney without going to our famous beaches. Manly Beach is a wonderful 30 minute ferry trip or fabulous Bondi Beach is just a short bus trip from the centre of Sydney.
Golf Courses – plenty of courses for the golfer within 1 hour of Sydney, pack your golf clubs!
Family Activities – too numerous to mention.
Put this type of website together with some great photos and if I couldn’t convince you that Sydney was a great place to visit I would start to think I was in the wrong business!
You could even dig deeper into those categories to target specific demographics of travellers, such as, various age groups from under 25’s to over 60’s etc, families (travelling with children), sporting groups or cultural groups - yes, more niche markets!
Let your imagination run riot, think outside the square.
Once you have visitors to your website you need to be able to keep them interested in what you have to offer.
A simple opt-in form on your website offering a free report or ebook relevant to your niche market is ideal.
How about a report like - "5 Things You Must Know - That The Airlines Won't Tell You". I'd opt-in for that! Once opted-in you now have "permission" to contact them via their email address.
You will need to set up an autoresponder email series, again relevant to your niche market, that will keep you in contact with your prospective customers and you are on your way to building a list.
What's the MLM sayings - "the fortunes in the follow-up" and "the gold is in the list".
Now, let’s have a look at the Health and Wellness sector and see what niche markets we can find.
Choose your favourite product, maybe a vitamin supplement, weight loss system, nutritional drink, cleansing lotion, anti-oxidant etc.
I would choose a skin care regime as I have had first hand experience with dry skin, rosacea, psoriasis and acne. Your broad categories for your niche market could be about:
- Your own skin problems – again you are connecting with your audience by making the story personal
- The PH balance of healthy skin and why it is so important. How a high PH in soaps can strip the skin of natural oils.
- The increase in dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and allergies that affect the skin
- How the environment impacts on our skin
- How our diets are lacking in essential nutrients and how that affects the skin
- Why people have more allergies and sensitivities to certain foods and products than say 10 or 20 years ago
Make sure what you write is in your own words, try not to be too technical, personalise it with your own story or a family member or friends story (with their permission, of course).
Break down your broad categories into micro-niches, such as
Types of skin problems
– rosacea, eczema, dermatitis, acne, psoriasis, dry and itchy skin, nappy rash, cradle cap, impetigo, dandruff, hives, heat rash or prickly heat etc.
Women’s skin problems
Men’s skin problems
Teenage acne
Adult acne
Baby eczema, nappy rash, cradle cap
Stress related skin conditions
Mature age skin conditions
How everyday household cleaning products can cause skin sensitivities and allergies.
How cosmetics and after shave lotions can cause skin problems
(Note: I haven’t put any images in the health and wellness example, the images in the travel example were my own from a recent trip to Sydney but I’m sure you could track down some images from either www.istockphotos.com or one of the other image websites – better still take your own photos but make sure if you take a photo of someone you get their permission to use it on your website).
Put an opt-in form on your website and offer a free report or ebook such as “How To Balance Your Skin in 3 Easy Steps” or whatever is a helpful, valuable report about skin complaints that is relevant to your audience.
As for the Travel example, you would then set up your autoresponder with a relevant series of emails that you can send to your opt-in list.
You are now building a list of people who are actually interested in what you, the authority, have to say on your niche market.
This is attraction marketing at its best – look at our niche market Travel site – targeting people who want to know about and visit Sydney – we have created a website with enough information and great images to really get them excited about their trip.
What about our niche market Skin Problems site – targeting people who have skin problems and want a solution – we have created a website which is chock-a-block full of information on skin problems - your audience doesn’t have to sift through the heartburn, headaches and bad backs categories to get to what they want to know about.
We have created “one stop shops” of information, advice, recommendations and answers to their problems and queries.
You could also promote other affiliate products on your site, such as travel products (luggage, books and CDs about your niche destination) or lifestyle products (exercise equipment, books and CDs on yoga, exercise, mediation, stress-management) and the list goes on.
You are now creating multiple streams of income from your original niche markets.
If you are thinking “I'm not an authority on anything” well this may surprise you – you are probably, already an authority on something!
Look at your educational studies, hobbies or employment you have had – maybe you studied photography or languages, you may have worked in customer relations or motor mechanics, you may do woodworking or crafts as a hobby – you would know a lot more about these subjects, jobs or hobbies than people who have never studied, worked or attempted to make them. You are an authority on that particular subject.
To give you even more inspiration on how you can become an authority on different topics have a look at these
case studies
from SiteBuildIt owners – an amazing array of topics from juices to asphalt!
How does this all tie in with your MLM downline you are building?
Taking our two examples, firstly the Travel business – you have shown your downline how to create a successful website by using just one destination. Each of your downline could do a similar website on their own favourite holiday destination.
The same with the Health and Wellness example – everyone has their favourite product and websites could be created on a variety of health conditions.
Your innovation and success could skyrocket you up the ladder of your MLM company and you will never have to go to your warm market list ever again!
